Any printer project, be it an art and craft school project or a memory to be created in the form of a picture can be enhanced with the use of right grade and quality of color printer paper.

While for basic home as well as office printing a simple multipurpose paper may be the best choice, there are other alternatives available for more varied uses. Apart from the regular printers in offices, today many households are also investing in a color printer for their various printing needs. Not only does it give the user the comfort of printing from his or her own home instead of going to a shop, it also turns out to be a cheaper option. The color printer paper is required both for day to day printing of projects, graphs and presentations along with for more specialized printing of good quality photos.

There are numerous options in color printer paper if the user has photo printing in mind. Most of the time a novice photographer would spend a great deal of money on a camera and a printer for getting the perfect pictures. Yet the most important ingredient for getting that perfect photo print is often missed. This ingredient is a good quality color printer paper. There are special papers available for color printing in both laser as well as inkjet papers.

The color photo printing papers for inkjet printers are usually available in different grades such as glossy, matte and semi-glossy paper. These papers are differentiated into various grades based on the finish of the paper. The various kinds of color printer paper may also differ in their thickness. The thicker color printer papers normally have a coating on one side and thus they can be used for single side prints only.

The most popular of color printer papers for photo printing are glossy papers. The reason for their widespread use is that they have a shiny finish and thus add vibrancy to the final images that are printed. Yet these papers are not preferred for printing photographs to be framed as they provide an additional glare along with the glass and thus it becomes a little difficult to see the picture especially in a well lighted room. The paper with matte finish is normally less shiny and provides better contrast and is often preferred by the professional photographers. Many professional photographers also utilize special color printer paper which imitates canvas’ texture on paper.

Today a wide range of paper types are available for color printing. Many suppliers of color paper also specialize in providing unique and hard to find paper solutions, catering to every need of the customer. Many companies that produce color printer paper now offer paper made with more sophisticated technology which ensures more vibrant colors and less smears. Most of this paper is engineered with special additives that serve to absorb the ink deeper into the paper while at the same time holding the pigment closer to the surface. This results in a better print quality.
